Eight week choir for people with memory loss

We are supporting an organisation who are setting up some activities in the local area for people with memory loss or dementia and their companions / carers to attend.

The first one that has been set up is an eight week choir, taking place at St Peters Church in Bournemouth, starting early February. Research indicates that keeping active and engaged is beneficial for the memory and for people in the early stages of dementia. We are therefore encouraging people, whether or not they have experience of being in a choir, to come along to this activity. Above all else it should also be a fun experience and provide feelings of wellbeing.

I would appreciate it if you were able to distribute the attached flyer, preferably with an explanation, to churches and congregations in the area, and encourage them to come along. Broadstone Stepping Stones – Looking back and Looking forward

Broadstone Stepping Stones Project was launched following a very well attended conference at Broadstone Methodist Church in May 2014. Keynote speakers were Jeremy Hughes, CE of the Alzheimer’s Society and former Health and Care Minister, Paul Burstow. Presentations were also given from local health and voluntary organisations. The theme of the Conference was how could Broadstone work towards becoming a dementia friendly community.

Following the Conference a Steering Group was set up with representatives from key organisations in the community. A mission statement was drawn up and agreed.
